GUESTS FROM NICARAGUA

We will be welcoming three individuals from Nicaragua to Western District Synod from April 3rd-6th who are sharing about the hurricane relief work happening in Nicaragua.

There is also the opportunity to meet and share in conversation with them on Monday, April 7th at 6:30pm here at West Side Moravian.

We would like to provide a meal for them and other guests, and if you are able to help provide food please email or call the church office.

Also, if you are planning on joining us for conversation and dinner please let me know so we know how many to plan for.

SUMMER CAMPS AT MT. MORRIS

The Western District Camping Committee has announced its summer camp schedule for 2008.  Camper registration materials will be available at church soon.

  • Junior Camp ~ June 23-27..............Grades 3 – 5
  • Chetek Camp ~ July 13-19.............Grades 9 – Age 21
  • Winmor Camp~July 20-26..............Grades 6 – 8
  • 4M Camp ~ July 28-30...................Grades 1 – 2
  • Plus 50 ~ July 31-Aug 3..................Age 50 Plus

Summer church camping is about many things.  A “sampling” of some of the benefits of a summer church camp experience includes:

An opportunity to live out Christian beliefs and teachings under the guidance of trained Christian leaders.

An opportunity to explore nature in a “non-superficial” setting.  What better way to experience God’s out of doors than a creek walk, a hike through the woods, or around an outdoor campfire?

A chance to challenges oneself physically-daily swims, hiking, on a ropes course to build trust and cooperation.

Develop communities-cabin groups, discussion small groups, the larger total camp community of all campers and counselors.

f you have camp related questions please contact Rita Klubertanz

TUESDAY, APRIL 8THPUBLIC FORUM

The JOSHUA TIP (Treatment Instead of Prison) Committee will hold a public forum to support the formation of a drug court in Brown County.

Tuesday, April 8th @ 7:00 PM
Father Ken DeGroot Community Center,
St. Willebrord Church
209 S. Adams St., Green Bay

The purose of this forum is to educate the public, and to influence our public officials to initiate a drug court in our county.

Drug courts emphasize keeping minor drug possession defendants out of jail by requiring they instead seek employment, receive drug counseling, and comply with additional orders imposed by judges.  Theses courts are proven to reduce criminal activity, make communities safer, and reduce taxpayer monies spent to increase jail capacities.

Speakers on April 8th will include a Judge from Winnebago County with experience operating a drug court, a criminal defendant who has benefited from such a program, a religious leader, and the Honorable Donald Zuidmulder, Brown County Circuit Court.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Themeeting will be chaired by Lois Pulvermacher.  For more information visit our website,  www.joshua4justice.org, or contact JOSHUA at 920-362-1511 or joshua4justice@gmail.com

OUR FAITH AND OUR COMMUNITIES

Thank you to Judy Vogels for organizing our March gathering and thank you to our guest Roberto Torrez, co-chair of the JOSHUA Immigration Committee, who shared information regarding immigration.  This gathering helped us to better understand this complex issue and learn of ways to create positive change in our communities.  Roberto shared some concrete ways we can respond to the immigration issue: push legislators for comprehensive immigration reform, volunteer at the literacy council to help new immigrants learn English, and consider being part of the JOSHUA Immigration Committee.
We will meet again on Sunday, April 27th with the discussion’s topic yet to be determined- watch upcoming Sunday bulletins for more details.  All are invited to join in the conversation!

CONFIRMATION STUDENTS GOING ON URBAN IMMERSION RETREAT

The youth preparing for confirmation will be traveling to Minnesota the first weekend in May for an Urban Immersion Retreat.  This retreat gives the opportunity to engage in service projects and develop ways to address the issues of impoverishment in our own communities.  We will be taking a special collection on Sunday, April 20th to help with the cost of this retreat.  We invite your prayers for those youth attending- Eric A, Jordan A, Blake L, Joshua K and Felisha M, as well as the adults attending- Pastor Marian, AJ Blazek, Peter Cardinal and Lisa Antonissen.

*  April 16 at Madison Christian Community 7118 Old Sauk Road, Madison

This workshop will address the following questions:
1. How might we find a balance between managerial and transformational leadership?
2. Will programmatic change transform our churches or do we need a cultural change to bring long-term solutions?
3. Have we mistaken a Christian culture for a Christian faith?
4. Is the church’s future one of technical change or adaptive change (change that allows the spirit of God to move freely in our midst?)
5. How do we move faithfully in this rapidly changing world without losing our sense of whom God is calling us to be as the Church?
